Babcock has launched Pelorus, a digital platform intended to link the design, construction, operation and long-term support of maritime assets.

The platform was launched at the ongoing Euronaval defence exhibition in Paris.

Pelorus brings together data from multiple systems and sources through a central command centre, offering programme teams, operators, and support organisations a unified view of assets at both fleet and programme level.

The platform, already introduced in selected Babcock-managed marine build and support settings, is intended to link information that is often kept separate across the lifecycle of a vessel.

While its initial implementation centres on maritime applications, the system is designed with adaptability in mind, allowing for potential use across other defence and critical infrastructure domains.

According to the company, Pelorus aims to enhance decisions on programme performance, operational readiness, and through-life support by making previously disconnected data accessible in a single environment.

Development is also focused on applying the platform to existing fleets, new vessels, and emerging hybrid and autonomous maritime systems.

This includes support for Babcock’s ARMOR Force concept, an Autonomous and Remote Maritime Operational Response Force.

The company added that collaboration with partners has been key, with Pelorus created to respond to trends such as digital shipbuilding, increased use of AI and analytics, adoption of digital twins, and growing requirements for fleet availability and lifecycle extension.

Babcock Marine chief growth officer and chief executive Nick Hine said: “The future of maritime capability depends on the ability to connect design, production, operational and support data into a single digital environment. Pelorus provides our customers with a powerful whole-life view of their assets, enabling better decisions, improved performance and greater operational availability.

“By creating a connected digital thread from build to support, we can help navies and maritime operators accelerate delivery, optimise readiness and unlock greater value throughout the lifecycle of their assets.”

Pelorus forms part of Babcock’s investment in digital systems for defence and maritime customers.
