BMT Defence Services, a subsidiary of BMT Group, the leading international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has announced the promotion of Tim Hardy to the role of head of naval engineering. Tim will lead a team of more than 60 people comprising some of the industry’s top mechanical, electrical and marine engineers.

Since joining BMT in 1998 Tim has led a broad portfolio of projects that encompass areas such as submarine concept design and assurance, unmanned vehicle integration and strategic life extension investigations spanning surface and submarine vessels. Tim has also been the driving force behind the development of BMT’s successful technology management offering over the last seven years.

A chartered engineer (CEng) and member of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology (MIMarEST), Tim is well respected in the industry through his professional community activities and authoring of technical papers at several of the industry’s most prestigious events, including the International Naval Engineering Conference (INEC) and Underwater Defence Technology (UDT) conferences.

Roy Quilliam, technical director of BMT Defence Services, comments: “Tim is one of the industry’s finest naval engineers and his experience is recognised and respected by our customers and partners alike. We are confident that he will rise to this new challenge and continue to play an integral role in driving BMT’s business forward.”

As Head of naval engineering, Tim will also continue to remain heavily involved in BMT’s submarine and acquisition support business both in the UK and overseas.
