America’s largest shipbuilder, HII, has won a $41m contract to provide shipboard and shore-based Integrated Training Systems Installation and Sustainment (ITSIS) for the US Navy.
HII’s Mission Technologies division, tasked with providing software engineering and IT solutions, will develop the future ITSIS system over a one-year base period plus a six-month extension.

The contract comes under the Naval Sea Systems Command’s (NAVSEA) SeaPort Next Generation contract to support the US Surface Naval Warfare Center Dahlgren Division Dam Neck Activity.
The work expands upon HII’s existing support of training systems to the customer.

With more than 30 years of experience delivering shipboard and shore-based installation and sustainment services to the US Navy, HII’s team will provide: hardware and software upgrades, system maintenance, training system integration, curriculum development and fleet training, cybersecurity, lab support, integrated logistics support, configuration management and life-cycle sustainment of integrated training systems.
HII should consider cloud-distributed training
This year, the British Army completed the construction of its integrated training system with the help of the UK deep tech company, Hadean.
As opposed to the traditional method of containing training resources in data siloes accessible only to the primary user, Hadean employed cloud technology to offer an open storage space for these resources as the technology changes the way militaries operate as a shared infrastructure that encompasses many resources, with many users, in any place, all at the same time.
According to GlobalData forecasts the global cloud services market will reach $768bn in 2026, increasing at a compound annual growth rate of 17.7% between 2021 and 2026. This projection suggests that cloud tech may be a fundamental basis for military training systems due to its integrative infrastructure in bringing together distinct chambers of data into a composite whole.
