Italian cybersecurity company Elettronica has been given a contract to provide its naval radar electronic countermeasure (ECM) system for the Indonesian Navy.
The ECM system is being procured for two 90m offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) that are currently being built for the Indonesian Navy by Indonesian shipbuilding firm PT Daya Radar Utama (PT DRU).

Once equipped, the new radar ECM system is expected to provide effective defence capabilities for the two vessels.
It features an active phased array transmitter and dedicated ECM techniques that are segments of countermeasure programmes.
The generated set of jamming techniques is automatically selected to enhance the system’s effectiveness to counter terminal missile threats, as well as long-range designation radar systems.
Elettronica’s ECM system also has a modular architecture and can be adapted to different classes of naval vessels.

By GlobalDataIn addition, the ECM system will consist of two Jamming Antenna Sub Systems (JASS) that will be capable of coordinating with the naval platform’s other onboard electronic warfare (EW) systems, including sensors and actuators.
Elettronica said that the JASS system is International Traffic in Arms Regulations-free and can be incorporated into all the naval combat management systems currently in service with different forces worldwide.
The company said the latest contract is its first in Indonesia.
In a statement, Elettronica said: “This contract is a result of Elettronica’s strong intention to extend its presence in South-East Asia and, in particular, start its new partnership with the Indonesian Navy, to which Elettronica could be a reliable long-term partner to increase in-country EW capabilities (in line with) any future requirements.”
Based in Rome, Elettronica supplies a range of solutions, systems and products for EW applications.
In May last year, the company secured a contract to provide its EW suite for the Italian Navy’s U212 submarines.
