The US Navy’s George H W Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG) has conducted a routine transit in the Strait of Gibraltar.
The transit was conducted as part of GHWBCSG’s regular deployment in the US Naval Forces Europe-Africa (NAVEUR-NAVAF) area of operations.

Earlier this month, GHWBCSG along with other strike group ships, squadrons and staff departed from the US, before coming together as a strike group in the Atlantic Ocean.
It has now entered the Mediterranean Sea.
GHWBCSG Carrier Strike Group 10 commander rear admiral Dennis Velez said: “We are here to provide the flexibility and combat power that only a US Navy carrier strike group can provide combatant commanders.
“The Sailors of the GHWBCSG are clear-eyed about our mission, ready to execute, and prepared to reassure our partners and allies while allowing our diplomats to negotiate from a position of strength, knowing the US Navy is on station.”

By GlobalDataDuring its deployment in the NAVEUR-NAVAF region, the GHWBCSG will operate alongside its allied and partner naval forces to demonstrate maritime partnership among them.
The deployment aims to enhance theatre security cooperation efforts and strengthen regional stability.
GHWBCSG is a force of over 6,000 US Navy’s sailors that can perform a variety of missions across the world.
The strike group comprises of staff and ships from the Destroyer Squadron (DESRON)-26, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 10 staff, CVN 77, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7, Information Warfare Commander and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55).
The latest deployment marks the first time the US Navy’s Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H W Bush (CVN 77) has operated in this area of operations since 2017, following which the vessel underwent an extensive maintenance period.
