A multi-role 3D surveillance radar system, Sea Giraffe AMB is used for naval applications.

It provides medium range, simultaneous air, and surface surveillance, besides possessing a weapon designation capability.

The radar system is suitable for deployments in naval environments such as the littorals and blue-water operations.

The RCN has 12 Halifax-class multi-role patrol frigates designed for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare.

Under different modernisation projects, the frigates are being equipped with various enhancements to help meet emerging and evolving threats and operating environments.

In December 2018, the Canadian Government awarded a contract to Saab Microwave Canada to supply new antenna sets for the Sea Giraffe 180 medium-range air and surface search radar.
