Coda Octopus Group has entered a US Navy Cooperative Research Development Agreement (CRADA) regarding the real-time divers augmented vision display-head up display system (DAVD-HUD).

The deal with the US Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) will see the company transition the DAVD-HUD prototype into a complete ready-for-operational-use solution.

The prototype DAVD-HUD is integrated with Coda’ real-time 3D visualisation software and has been successfully trialled and evaluated by both divers and astronauts.

"This is a significant development for Coda Octopus as it positions the company to roll out its unique real-time 3D capabilities, both hardware and software, across the navy."

Coda Octopus Group chairman and CEO Annmarie Gayle said: “I am very excited and pleased that we have been given this significant opportunity to take forward the initial vision of the DAVD-HUD into a real-time, real-world application that will greatly advance defence and military applications.

“This is a significant development for Coda Octopus as it positions the company to roll out its unique real-time 3D capabilities, both hardware and software, across the navy, a very important group of users.”

The company will collaborate with NSWC PCD under the latest CRADA in order to transition the existing prototype into a first-generation operational system, which is expected to be put into production no later than one year from the date of the agreement.

Coda will then receive an exclusive invention licensing agreement to develop and deliver the complete software and hardware system to the US Navy and the wider military community.

The US Government has also provided the company with funding for the development of 3D visualisation software to be used in collaboration with the DAVD prototype, which was previously using 2D imaging sonar data.

The scope of project involves the development of the second, third and fourth generations of the complete DAVD-HUD, including the helmet with all electronics included, in addition to the real-time 3D sonar and visualisation software.
