Naval Group has delivered its latest visual defence simulator, Simdav, to the French Navy in Brest.
The latest delivery follows the company’s provision of the same simulator system to the navy in Toulon at the end of last year.

Both orders form part of the French Navy’s five-year upgrade and through-life support contract, which was originally awarded by the country’s armament procurement agency DGA in December 2014.
The Simdav simulator is equipped with advanced technology and will enable the crew members of the French Naval Action Force, and a grouping of naval infantry and maritime gendarmes, to train under realistic conditions.
It is designed to facilitate effective self-defence training exercises under all types of air and surface threats, in addition to asymmetric threats such as terrorism and illegal trafficking.
The simulators can also be used to provide training to prepare and completely deploy small-calibre weapons.

By GlobalDataNaval Group Services director Nathalie Smirnov said: “Thanks to these simulators, Naval Group will further strengthen its capacity to adapt to the needs of the French Navy to support them in the acquisition and maintenance of very specific operational skills.”
Each of the large domes has a diameter of approximately 16m and features a mobile platform mounted on six cylinders, which enables the simulation of roll and pitch as a function of sea state.
The virtual operations theatre is projected on to the dome’s interior surface over 270° to a height of 7m.
The platforms enable the initiation of fully configurable exercise scenarios as a function of crew training requirements for different types of vessels.
It provides a total of six fixed-weapon stations, three mobile-weapon stations and one command centre.
Naval Group has agreed to provide through-life support for the systems for a three-year period as part of the arrangement.
