Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that in addition to the missiles and submarines for the navy, the arms purchases also include five Iskander short-range missile systems, a naval corvette, 30 helicopters, 28 war planes and about 300 armoured vehicles, according to Bloomberg.
The modernisation programme also includes the upgrade of Russia’s nuclear deterrent and the renewed production of aircraft carriers.
Russian military general staff chief Nikolai Makarov said the country was spending $17.3bn on 2009 procurements and would spend the same in 2010 for the arms purchases.
