MBDA has entered into a framework agreement with the Spanish Navy for the supply of three SIMBAD RC anti-missile systems.
The acquisition is part of the Ministry of Defence and the Navy’s plans to expand self-protection measures against missile and aerial threats.

The system will be integrated into active naval units, MBDA said, though the specific platforms to receive the equipment were not disclosed.
MBDA’s SIMBAD RC system is based on the MISTRAL missile and serves as both an anti-missile and anti-aircraft self-defence solution for naval vessels.
The system is suitable for installation on various types of vessels, including patrol boats and support ships, and can serve as either a main self-defence solution or as an additional layer to existing defence systems.
According to the company, SIMBAD RC is designed to counter various threats, including anti-ship missiles, sea-skimming missiles, aircraft, and drones. It can be operated by a single individual and is intended to provide continuous coverage in all weather conditions.
For Spain, this marks the first time the SIMBAD RC system will be available to its fleet.
The announcement did not specify the financial terms of the agreement or the timeline for delivery.
MBDA stated the development consolidates its presence in Spain and reaffirms its intention to seek further collaboration with the Spanish armed forces and the national defence industry in the years ahead.
