The US Navy has awarded a contract to LPI Technical Services to provide support services for material handling equipment, and ship operation and performance.

Under the $84.1m contract, the company will provide repair, maintenance, modernisation, logistical and technical support services for material handling equipment or yellow gear, according to defenceindustrydaily.com.

Yellow gear is used for aircraft handling, servicing, maintenance and fire fighting on aircraft carriers.

In addition, LPI will provide hull, mechanical and electric machinery and systems for ship operation and performance.

The majority of the work will be carried out in Virginia, while the remainder will take place in several locations across the US. It is expected to be complete by March 2015.

The contract has been awarded by the US Navy’s Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division’s Ship System Engineering Station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
