India has delivered its first indigenous technology Data Link II to Boeing, to be installed on the Indian Navy’s P-8I Poseidon surveillance aircraft.
The Bharat Electronics-developed Data Link II enables the exchange of data and messages between aircraft, ships and shore-based assets in real time.
Boeing will install the technology on the surveillance aircraft during its final assembly at the company’s facility in Renton, Seattle, US.
In January 2009, India signed a $2.1bn contract with Boeing for the acquisition of eight P-8I maritime surveillance aircraft to replace the Indian Navy’s aging fleet of Tupolev Tu-142M maritime surveillance turboprop aircraft.
