Babcock has begun a five month-long support period (docking) (SP(D)) upgrade work on the UK Royal Navy’s newest Sandown Class single role minehunter, HMS Shoreham, in Scotland, UK.

The programme includes a substantial maintenance package along with a number of upgrades aimed to improve the ship’s operational capability.

Additional upgrades include work on the air conditioning plant, sea water cooling systems, fitting of a chloropac dosing system and a resitting of 5t of ballast.

HMS Shoreham is the second single-role minehunter to receive the defence information infrastructure (future) (DII(F)), which will enable information sharing and cooperation across the defence sector network.

The minehunter ship will undergo sea trials after the upgrade in September of this year.
