Lockheed Martin has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase Ultra Maritime, a manufacturer of anti-submarine warfare (ASW) systems, for $3.45bn.
The acquisition, once completed, will see Ultra Maritime integrated into Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems business. It is subject to the usual regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.

Ultra Maritime, which provides advanced sonar technologies, sonobuoys, torpedo defence products, radar solutions, and autonomous maritime sensing systems, is currently part of Cobham Ultra.
Cobham Ultra was formed after Advent purchased British aerospace firm Cobham in 2020 and subsequently merged it with Ultra Electronics after its acquisition in 2022.
Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems president Stephanie C. Hill said: “By joining forces with Ultra Maritime, we’re accelerating our commitment to deliver the most advanced undersea and anti-submarine warfare capabilities to our US and allied partners across the globe.”
Ultra Maritime, which operates across the US, Canada, UK and Australia, offers ASW solutions across airborne, surface and undersea domains.
The company’s global presence and range of ASW products available for export, includes sonobuoys, towed sonar arrays, and hull-mounted sonar systems.
In 2025, Ultra Maritime established partnerships with Anduril Industries to advance next-generation autonomous ocean sensing, and with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems to develop uncrewed airborne ASW capabilities.
Last month, the company completed the first in-water deployment trial of its Multistatic Active Receive Sonobuoy (MSARS) in Scotland.
Ultra Maritime president and CEO Carlo Zaffanella said: “Advent’s partnership and investment have been transformative for our business.
“Since 2022, we have developed and delivered an independent sonobuoy capability, redesigned our manufacturing facilities, and introduced groundbreaking modular sonar and autonomous acoustic sensing systems for our customers.”
