Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has received a lifecycle engineering contract for the USS San Antonio (LPD 17), the US Navy’s San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship.
The $34.8m, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract comes with options which, if exercised, would bring the total value of the contract to $242m.

Under the order, the firm will provide post-delivery planning and engineering, systems integration and support, research, material support, fleet modernisation programme planning, supply chain management, and maintenance.
The contract also includes training for certain San Antonio-class shipboard systems.
HII project programme manager George Nungesser said: "This contract builds on our strong legacy of partnership with the navy in the construction and post-delivery of navy ships.
"We look forward to providing on-site support at US Navy homeports to upgrade these ships with the latest technology."

By GlobalDataThe 684ft-long, 105ft-wide, San Antonio-class vessels have a displacement capacity of 25,000t, and are designed for marine expeditionary units and brigades.
Powered by four Colt-Pielstick 2.5 STC diesel engines, the vessels support Marine Air Ground Task Force operations, including amphibious and expeditionary sea control missions.
The vessels will also provide humanitarian assistance and support in disaster relief missions.
