Iranian Navy commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari and Djiboutian Army joint chief of staff Fathi Ahmad Hossein have agreed to boost mutual cooperation in naval fields.

The two sides have agreed to join forces in counter-terrorism, fighting against smugglers and pirates in the Gulf of Aden as well as in providing ship repair and maintenance services.

The Djiboutian military commander has asked Iran to the dispatch its fleet of warships to the Gulf of Aden and to provide personnel training, ship guarding and protection, and naval equipment.

Rear Admiral Sayyari said the navy will cooperate with Djibouti in its anti-piracy efforts and in establishing naval training camps as well as safeguarding territorial waters and coasts.

Iranian and Djiboutian officials have signed two memoranda of understanding to boost mutual cooperation and bilateral ties between the two countries in December 2010, according to the Fars News Agency.
