NAVAL OPTRONIC AND OPTICAL SENSORS

Modern periscope systems and optronic mast systems provide all the information required to pilot a submarine at any time – during the day, at night and in heavy seas. This includes navigational data, as well as images and data from reconnaissance tasks. Optical sensors and optronics are vital to the early recognition, observation and identification of targets.

Carl Zeiss Optronics develops and manufactures periscope and optronic mast systems – both as a combined solution, and single solutions for retrofit – in accordance with customer specifications. Submarine optronics is thus an essential element for networked operations during peacekeeping missions.

PERISCOPE SYSTEMS

Carl Zeiss Optronics' periscope systems contain a high-quality optical observation channel with a binocular tube. Their lines of sight are stabilised in elevation and azimuth by means of gyroscopes. Observation and operation is controlled either directly on the periscope or on a combat system control console.

Carl Zeiss Optronics' periscope systems are equipped with various high-resolution cameras.

Standard equipment includes a colour TV camera, a residual light television camera and a digital camera.

A very precise, long-range and eye-safe laser rangefinder can also be integrated into Carl Zeiss Optronics' periscope systems, in addition to the optical rangefinder system.

OPTRONICS MAST SYSTEMS

Carl Zeiss Optronics' optronics mast systems consist of an optronic sensor equipped with a colour television camera with HDTV resolution, and a third-generation thermal imaging camera. The lines of sight of the cameras are stabilised in elevation and azimuth by means of gyroscopes.

The sensor is integrated into a retractable mast. Observation and operation are controlled directly on a stand-alone console with monitors, or on a combat system control.

Our optronics mast systems contain fully automatic functions that are ideal for missions where the sensor is exposed above sea surface for an extremely short time.
