Rohde & Schwarz Emirates has received a contract to supply its naval integrated communications system, NAVICS, to an undisclosed Gulf navy.
NAVICS is designed to ensure enhanced connectivity for all classes of naval vessels. The system allows fully IP-based, secure internal and external voice and data communications in harsh environments.
Integrating an open, modular, and scalable IP architecture, NAVICS uses a single Ethernet network for all services and features multilevel security.
The system will be installed on new corvettes.
Rohde & Schwarz Middle East and Africa Military and Government Solutions vice-president Ernest Joseph Yasso said: “We are very proud to have been selected by this Gulf navy for their very important national asset.
“Rohde & Schwarz, a long-term partner of the Gulf navies, is working toward a common basis and interoperability within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) by providing communications solutions, training, and service level agreements.
“We provide invaluable support to achieve seamless communications interoperability within each state, as well as across the GCC.
“We also make sure that we deliver a safe, future-ready investment for our naval customers on time and on budget.”
The company has already provided external line-of-sight (VHF/UHF) and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) high frequency (HF) communications solutions to the Gulf navy.
Rohde & Schwarz noted that all of its equipment aligns with the respective military standards for naval applications.
In September, Thales contracted Rohde & Schwarz to provide R&S KORA systems for integration onto the German Navy’s F126 vessels.
