Science Applications International (SAIC) has been awarded a contract by the US Navy to support the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV).

As part of the five-year agreement, the company will deliver programme objective memorandum assessment planning and warfare support analysis to the OPNAV.

With an overall value of $167m, the contract has been awarded to three firms, with task orders to be granted as firm-fixed-price or cost-plus-fixed-fee contracts.

"This programme is critical in helping the navy properly plan for current and future efforts."

SAIC Navy and Marine Corps Customer Group senior vice-president and general manager Tom Watson said: "This programme is critical in helping the navy properly plan for current and future efforts to ensure a consistently high state of readiness."

SAIC will deliver OPNAV’s assessment division (N81) with a complete methodology and support a review process that assists in classifying the navy’s warfighting potential and capacity requirements.

Furthermore, the company will help identify short and long-term capacity and potential shortfalls or gaps, as well as quantitative / qualitative measures that seem appropriate to support value-based trades between different navy modules.

The OPNAV consists of the Chief of Naval Operations, the senior military officer in the US Department of the Navy and the principal naval adviser to the secretary of the navy, as well as the president on the conduct of war and a subordinate staff.
