The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of a potential sale for long lead sub-assemblies for the electromagnetic aircraft launch system/advanced arresting gear (EMALS/AAG) to the UK.

The estimated $200m sale will include the energy storage, power conditioning and launch control systems for the EMALS and power conditioning, energy absorption subsystems, shock absorbers and drive fairleads for the AAG.

Under the foreign military sale, the UK has also requested spare and repair parts, personnel training and training equipment as well as related logistical support.

The sale will enhance the UK’s aircraft carrier ability to counter threats at sea by integrating the technology in the areas of aircraft launch and recovery aboard aircraft carrier.

General Atomics will be the prime contractor.
