The UK Royal Navy has awarded a contract to QinetiQ to design and deliver a new training environment for close-range gunnery training.

Under the contract, QinetiQ will deliver a scalable training simulation system that provides individual, collective and continuation training in the use of close-range weapons.

QinetiQ Training & Simulation Services managing director Miles Adcock said: "QinetiQ will deliver an updated 3D virtual environment along with adapted ship-mounted weapons to deliver an immersive and operationally current series of weapons training platforms that can be quickly configured to meet future user requirements."

The system enables easy reconfiguration to work with other training programmes such as the Maritime Composite Training System or other ship-alongside training facilities.
