The UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) naval design partnering (NDP) has relocated to a new Babcock office in Bristol, which houses submarine and surface ship NDP teams and Babcock’s energy and marine technology (E&MT) team.

Located in Bristol Business Park near the MoD Abbey Wood site, Babcock House can accommodate 64 NDP staff, in addition to the Babcock E&MT team.

UK MoD director, ships, Tony Graham said the new office is a significant step to protecting and growing the UK’s key naval design capability, providing a collaborative environment for multiple industrial partners to work together.

"For overseas customers interested in access to high-end ship design capability, this joint government/industry office provides a very welcoming front door to some of the best of UK design skills."

Combining RN operational and cross-industry expertise in MoD-industry integrated teams, the new facility enables the MoD and selected industry contractors to work on naval design and develop innovative solutions.

Babcock energy and marine technology naval engineering director Simon Knight said: "We are delighted to be able to contribute in this way to the country’s future ship and submarine naval capability, by providing a dynamic and collaborative-environment work place for MoD, wider industry and Babcock design experts to work together."

The MoD led multi-industry groups benefit from the assets of naval capabilities within the UK by using skills from Babcock, BAES, Rolls-Royce, BMT, Selex, MBDA, QinetiQ, Thales and Atlas.
