OSI Maritime Systems (OSI) has signed a contract to deliver tactical-asset control and tracking systems (T-ACT) to the South African Navy.

The systems will be integrated on the navy’s rigid-hull inflatable vessels, in a bid to support maritime security operations.

Designed as a navigation and command, control and communication suite for small craft missions, such as maritime and boarder security agencies, T-ACT offers a secure data link by enabling beyond-line-of-sight between mother ships and small craft.

"T-ACT offers a secure data link by enabling beyond-line-of-sight between mother ships and small craft."

It is a small-craft HMI embedded with an electronic chart precise integrated navigation system (ECPINS) small craft, which is a variant of ECPINS intended mainly for deployment in restricted space environments and with an importance on tactical navigation functionality.

The COTS / MOTS-derived solution provides a low-risk, cost-effective solution to the command and control of offshore patrol craft and their embarked small craft.

Using the information obtained through the extensive use of AIS and the tactical support functions, the system provides an active means of capturing and sharing the complex situational awareness representation and employing assets, including small craft, rigid-hulled inflatable boats and similar fast boats and helicopters.

In addition, the system assists in coordinating the operations of multiple T-ACT-equipped vessels and smaller assets.

It is currently operational with the UK Police Authority and the Canadian Navy, and was used by the Canadian Port Security Unit during the 2010 Winter Olympics.
