The Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation has awarded a contract to Saab to upgrade the steering control consoles on the Royal Norwegian Navy’s Ula Class submarines.

Under the contract, the company will install new high-technology components in the steering control consoles regarding autopilot functionality and integration.

The 59m-long Ula Class submarines are among the most silent and manoeuvrable, and are intended primarily for coastal operations.

The contract has a value of Skr105m and the work will be carried out from 2011 to 2016.
