The Russian Navy will soon receive the second Steregushchy Class corvette (Project 20380) from St Petersburg’s Severnaya Verf shipyard in Russia.

RIA Novosti quoted a spokesman from the shipyard as saying, "The corvette features innovative solutions regarding hull design, armament, communications and electronics."

The ship is equipped with SS-N-25 Switchblade anti-ship missiles, a 100mm gun and a range of air defence and anti-submarine systems and is capable of destroying enemy surface ships, submarines and aircraft, whilst also providing artillery support for beach landings.

The 2,000t Steregushchy Class ships also feature advanced stealth technology that reduces their secondary radar field, as well as acoustic, infrared, magnetic and visual signatures.

Russia is planning to procure 30 vessels of this class to protect its coastal waters, as well as the Black and the Baltic Seas.
