The Royal Thai Navy has awarded a major order to Germany-based Rheinmetall for the delivery of a new and advanced naval training facility.

Rheinmetall’s Simulation and Training unit will be responsible for delivering the naval warfare training simulator (NWTS) to the Thai navy under the new, multi-million euro contract. The deal will also see the construction of a new building and infrastructure.

The new maritime training facility is slated to enter operational service in the third quarter of 2019.

The Thai navy’s NWTS will be designed based on Rheinmetall’s action speed tactical trainer (ASTT), and will be used to prepare navy personnel for a wide range of combat scenarios such as engaging mines, surface, aerial and underwater targets.

"The new training facility will be connected to the navy’s existing submarine command team trainer and anti-submarine warfare simulator systems upon completion."

Rheinmetall will also use its tried-and-tested advanced naval synthetic environment (ANSE) software to enable rapid generation of simulated scenarios.

The new training facility will be connected to the navy’s existing submarine command team trainer (SCTT) and anti-submarine warfare simulator (ASWS) systems upon completion, which were also supplied by Rheinmetall.
