Italian FREMM frigate completes first sea trials

The Italian Navy's first FREMM multimission European frigate Carlo Bergamini has completed the scheduled first phase of sea trials.

The Italian Navy's first FREMM multimission European frigate Carlo Bergamini has completed the scheduled first phase of sea trials.

The 139m-long Carlo Bergamini is fitted with a LM2500+G4 propulsion system, has a full load displacement capacity of 5,900t, a maximum speed of 27kt and can accommodate a crew of 145.

The frigate has also begun a second phase of sea trials, with delivery scheduled to take place in early 2012.
