Press Trust of India has reported that the 3D radars will be deployed onto warships above 3,000t to provide 360° surveillance capability to detect enemy aircraft, helicopters and anti-ship missiles.
According to the RFI, the radar should be capable of automatically tracking in three dimensions including range, height and direction and be compatible with advanced combat management systems.
India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has already developed 3D radars including Central Acquisition Radar (3D-CAR) and Revathi for the Akash surface-to-air missile system and maritime purposes respectively.
