Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) subsidiary AMSEC has been awarded a task order to provide engineering and technical services, in a bid to improve shipboard technical data environments of the US Navy.

"Under the contract, the company will provide technical services support to data logistics and delivery."

Phil Deuell, AMSEC’s Data Delivery Solutions Programs programme manager, said: "The objective of this effort is to improve the navy’s technical data logistics initiatives and the next generation of digital technical data delivery."

"We have an exceptional working relationship with our customers and will continue to provide them with state-of-the-art practical capabilities."

Awarded by the US Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD) under a previous contract, the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity, cost-plus-fixed-fee SeaPort Enhanced (SeaPort-e) task order has a base performance period of two years.

Under the contract, the company will provide technical services support to data logistics and delivery, while providing NSWCCD with computer engineering services and training.

Harris Leonard, HII AMSEC operations vice president and president, said: "We have assembled a full-service team of highly-skilled specialists with strong US Navy commercial best-practice expertise at a very reasonable cost."

The total value of the contract, which includes one-year option periods, will amount to nearly $4.9m.

Work on the contract will be carried out at the company’s Newport News facility in Virginia, US, and is expected to be complete by August 2015, if all options are awarded.

SeaPort-e is an electronic platform through which the US Navy acquires support services in 22 functional areas, including engineering, financial management and programme management.
