The Ghana Navy (GN) has taken delivery of four new fast patrol ships from Poly Technologies Incorporated (PTI) of China, at Takoradi Port in Ghana.

The ships have been purchased by the navy to ensure maritime security and combat illegal activities in Ghana and the West African region.

The 46m-long patrol vessels are equipped with advanced navigational devices to prevent bunkering, drug trafficking, pair-trawling and safeguard oil and gas installations.

The ships will be commissioned as GNS Garinga, GNS Blika, GNS Chemle and GNS Ewhor by the end of 2011, according to the Ghana News Agency.
