Boeing has awarded a contract to CAE to deliver six additional P-8A Poseidon operational flight trainers (OFTs) for the US Navy.

Under the contract, CAE will provide simulators along with a suite of P-8A aircraft equipment and enhanced desktop environment (AeDTE) trainers.

The AeDTE trainers will be used as role-playing stations for P-8A aircrew during training.

CAE president and general manager John Lenyo said that the P-8A operational flight trainers will help the navy to increase the amount of synthetic instruction used for aircrew training.

The P-8A maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft is a long-range anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence aircraft capable of broad-area, maritime and littoral operations.

Boeing was recently awarded a contract by the US Navy to provide P-8A OFTs and AeDTEs in support of low rate initial production lot two (LRIP-II) of the P-8A multi-mission maritime aircraft.

The navy has plans to purchase 117 P-8A aircraft to replace its existing P-3 Orion fleet.
