The US Navy has awarded two contract modifications worth $72.6m to General Dynamics Electric Boat to provide various services in support of nuclear submarines, related facilities and equipment at the naval submarine base in Groton.

Under the first contract modification, worth $45.6m, Electric Boat will continue to perform non-nuclear submarine modernisation and repair services at the naval submarine support facility, the Shippingport floating dry-dock, as well as supporting and servicing craft.

The five-year contract was awarded in 2006 and has a potential value of $201.8m if all options are exercised and funded.

The second contract requires the company to continue operating the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department (NRMD) at the submarine base, providing services in support of planned and emergent nuclear maintenance and repairs for operational submarines.

Awarded in October 2009, the $27m contract has a potential value of $78m over a three-year period.

Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics.
