The Defense Security Cooperation Agency in the US has notified Congress of a potential sale to Australia of MK-54 lightweight torpedoes.

Under the $169m foreign military sale, Australia will receive 200 MK 54 All-Up-Round Torpedoes, 179 MK 54 Flight in Air Material Kits and 10 MK 54 Exercise Sections.

The package also includes 10 MK 54 Exercise Fuel Tanks, 10 MK 54 Dummy Torpedoes and 6 MK 54 Ground Handling Torpedoes, support and test equipment, as well as spare and repair related parts.

The MK 54 torpedo, an upgrade of the MK 46 torpedo, will be intergrated on the Lockheed/Sikorsky MH-60R helicopter.

Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems will be the prime contractor.
