Navistar has won its first-ever contract from the US Navy to supply 38 International 5000-MV heavy truck tractors (HTTs), spare parts and training services.

The 5000-MV HTT is a proven heavy-haul tractor that will support the navy’s Seabee transportation needs.

The vehicle incorporates a range of armouring solutions derived from the MaxxPro mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicle.

The HTT units also include a manual 18-speed transmission and a MaxxForce D 13L engine.

The $18.9m contract from the US Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) includes three option periods for additional vehicle orders, and production of the HTT vehicles is scheduled to begin in early 2012.

Currently, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence and KBR have 600 HTT units in service to support security and rebuilding efforts.
