The US Navy has awarded a new multiyear procurement (MYP) contract to Boeing for 124 F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft.

Under the $5.297bn contract, Boeing will deliver 66 Super Hornets, the navy’s frontline strike fighter, and 58 Growlers from 2012 through 2015.

The Super Hornet is a multirole aircraft, capable of performing every mission in the tactical spectrum, including day / night strike with precision-guided weapons, suppressing enemy air defences and reconnaissance missions.

The EA-18G combat aircraft conducts advanced airborne electronic attack (AEA) missions to support navy and joint force requirements.

The contract is the third multiyear agreement for production of the aircraft. Boeing has delivered 210 Super Hornets and over 430 F/A-18E/Fs to the navy to date.
