Four of the Canadian Navy’s Halifax-class frigates will be provided with Thales UHF satellite communication (SATCOM) omni-directional antennas.

The Quadrifilar Helix (QHASS) antenna is specifically designed to provide enhanced low-angle performance in the UHF SATCOM frequency band.

The system is a compact and lightweight omni-directional antenna that can be installed on any platform to provide optimum link margin performance.

Thales Canada president and CEO Paul Kahn said a variant of the antenna has been in operation for five years with the navy on its Iroquois-class destroyers.
