Syria has received advanced P-800 surface-to-sea and sea-to-sea missiles from Russia despite Israeli pressure to scrap the deal, Western diplomats have said.

The P-800 is a cruise missile capable of traveling 300km and delivering a 200kg payload, according to the Haaretz.

The projectile is designed to travel just metres above the surface of the water and is extremely elusive when faced with radar or intercepts.

Israel Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said the sale would not contribute to stability or efforts to bring about peace.
