The French Defence Procurement Agency has received the 200th MU-90 EuroTorp torpedo for use by the French Navy.

The MU-90 torpedo is a fire-and-forget anti-submarine weapon that can be deployed in deep and shallow waters.

The torpedo is powered through a closed-loop, aluminum-oxide sea water battery, which provides increased range, better performance and improved safety.

The weapon is used by F70 and Horizon frigates, ATL-2 maritime patrol aircraft and Lynx helicopters and will be used by FREMM frigates and NH-90 helicopters, according to United Press International.

EuroTorp is a multinational consortium that delivers lightweight torpedoes to French and Italian naval services.
