South Korea and the US are scheduled to begin a joint anti-submarine exercise in the West Sea between 5-9 September.

An official told the Korea Times that two US Aegis warships will be sent to train with South Korean submarines and destroyers.

“The exercises will focus on anti-submarine warfare tactics, including detecting and destroying North Korean submarines,” the official said.

The drill will be the fifth military deterrence drill since an alleged North Korean torpedo attack on a Seoul warship killed 46 sailors, according to the JoonAng Daily.
