EnerSys has been awarded contracts to supply submarine batteries for five navies worldwide, though the countries involved in the contracts were not revealed.

EnerSys chairman, president and CEO said the five new contracts valued at $39m were in addition to the existing contract to the US Navy.

The company has developed submarine batteries using thin plate pure lead technology for the US Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet.

It has also developed large lithium ion batteries that serve both future propulsion and reserve power needs on submarine fleets.
