Cubic Corporation has delivered the fifth-generation TOPGUN air combat training system to US Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

The new P5 tactical combat training system (P5TCTS), also known as TOPGUN, allows navy and marine fighter pilots to be trained anywhere, anytime, without the need for a fixed ground infrastructure.

The system enables the six F/A-18 Hornet squadrons at Miramar to carry out advanced flight manoeuvres over the Pacific instead of flying over mostly inland and desert airspace.

The P5TCTS incorporates Cubic’s individual combat aircrew display system (ICADS) for in-flight communications.

Fighter pilots will be able to evaluate their performance with ICADS in formal debriefing theatres or on laptops using 2D, 3D and multiscreen views.

TOPGUN is scheduled to enter operational service in 2011 at the US Navy’s Naval Air Station Fallon.
