The Netherlands Defence Materiel Organisation has awarded a contract to Ultra Electronics to supply advanced sonar systems for Dutch Navy frigates.

Under the C$25m (US$24.1m) contract, the company will supply two multistatic active passive sonar (MAPS) systems to equip the navy’s M-class frigates.

Each MAPS system incorporates an acoustic projector and receive array with handling equipment, and allows deployment and recovery of the sonar during the ship’s run time operations.

The system also incorporates a high-performance signal processing and display system developed by TNO Defence and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research.
