Raytheon will provide maintenance support services for the US Navy’s V-22 aircraft under a $250m contract.

Under the five-year contract, the company will provide support services for V-22 avionics systems software, situational awareness software and prototype hardware, and avionics acquisition support.

Raytheon Technical Services Customised Engineering and Depot Support vice-president Wayne Iurillo said the company’s mission avionics software capabilities had been a key aspect of the successful development and deployment of the V-22 aircraft.

The V-22 Osprey is a tiltrotor aircraft with vertical take-off and landing capability that can be operated on board an aircraft carrier or assault ship.

The aircraft undertake naval missions including combat search and rescue, fleet logistics support, special warfare support, amphibious assault, ship-to-objective manoeuvres and sustained operations ashore.
