The US and Japan have successfully completed a joint naval exercise in the western Pacific Ocean held from 21-25 June 2010.

The US Navy deployed its nuclear-powered super carrier USS George Washington in the joint navy exercise, codenamed Undersea Warfare Exercise (USWEX), with the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF).

During USWEX, JMSDF sailors onboard the US aircraft carrier simulated a wide range of engagements with allied submarines.

The exercise was primarily focussed on training and coordination of anti-submarine warfare (ASW) efforts between the US and Japan navies.
