MBDA has successfully carried out a series of test firings of the Aster 30 missile at two different ranges in the Mediterranean.

The missile was test fired from Italian Orizzonte frigate Andrea Doria, French Horizon frigate Forbin and the UK Navy’s principal anti-air missile system (PAAMS) sea trials platform, Longbow.

Test trials of the missile have covered a wide range of scenarios of steadily increasing complexity with a final trial featuring a salvo firing against a sea skimming target.

During the trials, the PAAMS equipment and the Aster missiles operated to expectation.

Programme CEO Antoine Bouvier said the trials ensured the full operational capability of the PAAMS(E) system with the French and Italian Navies and the Sea Viper system with the Royal Navy in 2011.
