The Dutch Navy has begun using the CommBox system developed by Virtek Communication to manage shipboard communications.

The CommBox system has been successfully installed and tested onboard the Netherlands Defence Academy training vessel, Van Kinsbergen.

The application is a hardware-based solution that can manage mail transfer, file transfer and database replication over satellite links.

The system also performs remote control and monitoring of computers and equipment connected to the ship’s network.

Dutch Navy Captain Marcel de Wijn said CommBox’s system provides control over data communication while significantly reducing airtime costs.
