UK Royal Navy minehunter HMS Atherstone has successfully completed a two-year deployment in the Gulf and arrived at its home base in Portsmouth.

During the deployment, the Hunt Class minesweeper was involved in a wide range of tasks providing security in the seas surrounding Gulf nations.

HMS Atherstone also participated in a joint naval exercise with Qatar Armed Forces off the coast of Doha and took part in many other drills with coalition forces.

The vessel was relieved on station by its sister ship, HMS Middleton, which was recently deployed in Bahrain to carry out mine countermeasures to safeguard cargo ships along the IRTC trade route.
