Italy has received its first AW139 medium twin helicopter from AgustaWestland, which will be used on coastguard operations.

The new AW139 will carry out a wide range of missions including maritime patrol, search and rescue (SAR), and emergency medical services.

The medium-sized twin-engined helicopter will provide maritime patrol and SAR services around the Italian coastline and in its maritime economic exclusive zone.

The helicopter features a wide range of SAR equipment including wire strike protection system, search / weather radar, night sun searchlight, emergency floatation systems, and an advanced cockpit with fully integrated avionics system and automatic flight control system.
