The Israeli Ministry of Defence has awarded a contract to Elbit Systems to supply unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).

Under the contract, worth approximately $50m, Elbit Systems will supply its latest Hermes 900 unmanned systems along with additional Hermes 450 unmanned systems.

The company will also supply the IDF with an enhancement of its existing UAS intelligence capabilities as part of the three-year contract.

Hermes 900 is an all-weather UAS that features larger multipayload configurations, a higher flight altitude of over 30,000ft, a larger payload capacity of 300kg and enhanced endurance.

The UAS is an improved variant of the Hermes 450 tactical UAS with full compatibility for missions and support infrastructure.

The Hermes 900 is controlled by the Elbit Systems universal ground control station, which can control two unmanned systems simultaneously, balancing their respective speed and payload capabilities.
