INS Shivalik is the lead ship of its class and the first of three Project-17 frigates, according to The Times of India.
At 143m-long and 17m wide, Shivalik has a displacement capacity of 6,000t, accommodation for 257 and a top cruise speed of 30kt.
Features of the stealth warship include versatile control systems with signature management and radar cross-section reduction capabilities, and a weapon suite comprising area and point defence systems.
The ship also incorporates sensors for air, surface and subsurface surveillance, electronic support and counter equipment and decoys to thwart any kind of attacks.
The two remaining Shivalik Class frigates, INS Sayahdri and INS Satpura, are scheduled to be commissioned in November 2010 and mid 2011 respectively.
